Direction
The cooperative keeps a working agent, a software worker that does tasks for the whole membership, and this page is where you give it work. A Direction is one such task, written down permanently: it carries your name, it says what you asked for, and everything that comes of it is filed here beside it. People still decide. The agent never merges its own work, never adopts anything, and never signs anything.
What this page is
Your desk for the cooperative's working agent. It shows what the agent is allowed to touch, lets you hand it a piece of work, and then keeps the running account of what it did with it.
What you can do here
Write what you want done in the box below, pick the kind of work, and press Give the Direction. Then watch it under Your Directions, where every step the agent takes is added as it happens. Nothing you write here is private to you and undone later: giving a Direction files it permanently. Nothing here spends money or changes the cooperative's governing documents.
Three things a Direction can never do: move money, reach any system outside the list above, or merge its own work into the cooperative's code. These limits are written in Common Agency §11, the cooperative's rules for its working agent. The database enforces them directly, so no page or app can offer you a way around them.
Everything you have given, newest first, with each step the agent took written underneath it. The tag on the right tells you where it stands: given waiting to be picked up, running being worked on now, completed finished, refused turned down for breaking a rule, and the rule is named, halted stopped part way by the steward. A completed Direction lists what it produced. Two terms you will see there: a branch is the agent's own working copy of the code, kept apart from everyone else's, and a pull request is the agent asking a person to review that work and decide whether to accept it.
This page shows you your own Directions only. A shared shelf, where members could read each other's finished Directions, is described in Common Agency §8, but it is not built yet. One question has to be answered first, and only the membership can answer it: should a member's Directions be readable by everyone, or private to whoever gave them (§15)? The shelf appears once that is decided and recorded.
