The Fifteen-Minute Walk

The cooperative's commons is live: a shared record and five doors into it, built and tested through July. This page walks you through all five in about fifteen minutes, at your own pace, in plain language. The steward's run-through is the long form; this is the walk that respects your afternoon.

Why walk it

Because it is yours. Everything you are about to touch is the cooperative's own information system: who belongs, what binds us, when we gather, what we are looking for. Not a vendor's product; a commons we hold together.

The shape of it

One record, five doors. Every act on any page is written to a single append-only log, and every page is a reading of that log. Nothing is ever silently edited or deleted; corrections are made by adding to the record, the way a ledger corrects.

You see only what is yours to see: the visibility of every row is decided in the database itself, and a test suite proves it on every change. Unfamiliar words along the way are defined in the Lexicon.

The walk

Six stops. Each one is a real act in the real record, so walk it as yourself. If a page does not recognize you yet, that is a one-message fix: tell Todd and your row is bound at the desk.

01Sign in at the portal~2 min
Enter your email; a sign-in link arrives; click it. No password, nothing to install. The portal then greets you by name, shows your membership standing, and holds a door to everything below.

02Read the shelf, sign your agreement~4 min
The agreements shelf lists every governing document that binds you, with version and standing marked: the Bylaws v2.1 and the Membership Agreement v2.3, both ratified July 2026. If your chip stands unsigned, read and sign; your signature lands in the record with the version you signed.

03Appear in the directory~4 min
Find yourself among the people and entities of the cooperative, then make the card yours: a picture, a short bio, links to your work, location, pronouns if you wish. Your email stays hidden unless you flip the switch that shows it to members; the choice is yours alone, and so is the whole card. Below your words, the card carries a small "from the record" line the system infers from what you actually do here: gatherings hosted, presence, postings, signatures. Nobody declares their crafts; the record shows them.

04See the calendar, register once~2 min
The gatherings calendar shows what is coming and who hosts it, family meetings included. Register for one. If your plans change, cancel and return; the record keeps the whole story rather than erasing it.

05Post to the board, or answer it~3 min
The opportunities board is where members find one another: invitations to play, practice, and work. Post one real thing you are looking for, or respond to something standing. Responses are visible to the two parties, not the room.

06Know the front door~1 min
The join form is how a newcomer applies: name, email, a line of intent, no meeting needed. You do not need to fill it; know where it is, because this is the one door meant to be shared outward.

What your fifteen minutes prove

The machine tests itself on every change: seven suites, and a weekly rehearsal that rebuilds the whole system from its own export. What only you can prove is that the commons tells the truth to a person, in plain reading, at human speed. That is what your walk adds, and no suite can add it for you.

if something reads wrong

That is not a bother; that is the walk working. A confusing sentence, a surprising refusal, a page that does not recognize you: each is worth one message to Todd, or a note at the next family meeting. The build corrects by commit, and the correction becomes part of the record like everything else.
